Well, this fellow is just sitting around on a pontoon boat trying to figure out where August went. I guess that makes two of us. It was a busy month here at the campground so it just flew by. It is almost time for us to head south to warmer and dryer weather. We will be here until September 20 then we are moving on.
Now for this months adventures. Just down the road is a very large man-made lake high above Lake Michigan. Down by the waters edge is a power station. During the day the water flows out of the man-made lake and thru turbines and into Lake Michigan to produce power during peak usage times. At night when demand is low they pump water from Lake Michigan back up into the man-made lake. Below is a picture of the power turbines on the waters edge.
This is just a little of the man-made lake. It holds 27 billion gallons of water and covers 842 acres. It is as deep as a 13 story building and is about 6 miles around the top.
Pentwater celebrated their 150th anniversary this year. There were all sorts of events going on all summer. There was a sand sculpture contest on the beach at the state park. There were some very nice and some others but everyone was having a good time.
Here is one of a lighthouse. I think it was Little Sable Point Lighthouse.
They had a parade and we were there to represent the campground. Fun-N-Sun RV was nice enough to loan us a retro trailer to pull in the parade. Here is left to right Dan, LuAnn, Andy, Jane, Holly and Marv.
The parade was well attended. Holly and Jane walked along the parade route and handed out candy. Andy and I waved from the truck. I was really tired from all that waving by the end of the parade. We won first place for the best looking pickup pulling a retro trailer. Not really, but if they had a ribbon for the best looking pickup pulling a retro trailer we had it in the bag!
Yup, we even had a partial eclipse here in Pentwater. I won't dwell on it...there were enough pictures of it. Just had to throw in one more.
We drove down to he big city to watch our grandson Graysen wrestle at the 2017 State Games of America. He was injured in his first match and they wouldn't let him compete the rest of the day. We were a little disappointed but not as much as he was.
We went to the Hudsonville Fair to go to the demolition road race with our daughter Krista and granddaughter Mikayla. We all had a very enjoyable evening.
They didn't try to smash up on purpose but from the condition of the cars there were no holds barred. We were down by turns one and two and that is where most of the contact was made. There were even two cars that completely rolled over trying to beat each other through the turn and ended up with both right side up. By the time it was all done it was dark and the midway was alive withe lights and sounds of a good old country fair.
Krista and Mikayla came out for an overnight visit so we walked out to Big Sable Point lighthouse. The weather was fantastic. I have several shots of this lighthouse but just could not pass up on this one.
Here is our lovely granddaughter Mikayla. Too bad her eyes are closed. She said the sun was in her eyes.

My sister Nancy came out for a nice little visit. We walked out to the breakwater light on a much nicer day. The picture below was taken on a day where the weather was being unpredictable...rainy, windy and just plain not nice. But it did make for a nice picture
Well, like I said, our time here is almost over. We have had a great time at Whispering Surf Campground. We have made some new friends, met some nice people and had a great time being back in our home state for awhile. Andy and Jane asked us to come back next year again and even though we don't normally do the same campground twice, we talked it over and said we would return next year. We think that we need to do a little more training to get them up to speed as campground owners. With that I'll leave you with a very lovely lady and Lake Michigan.
